Whilst it is believed that the forthcoming budget on Wednesday 24th March 2010 is a workman like budget remember that many Paye and National Insurance increases take effcet from 6th April 2010 having already been set in last years budget. Due to the way the PAYE system works many people are due a Paye Tax Refund .
I think it is fair to say that in a country like Great Britain with brave soldiers dying in Afghanistan due to under serious funding and lack of critical equipment the last thing that they need is a workman like budget. They need that like one needs a hole in the head!
What Great Britain needs is a properly thought out budget and one that gives the Ministry of Defence the proper level of funding that it deservers and needs
If the budget does not properly provide for the British Army then the Army should be brought home and the memebers of the government that failed to properly fund the war should go and fight in Afgahanistan. Perhaps they should try their hand at driving in the Snatch Landrovers that are known as a mobile coffins. These vehicles are very good for driving on proper roads for which they were built for. They were not built as an all terrain vehicle nor were they built with the rered armour plate to deal with road side mines.
With or with out a war Britain does not need a workman like budget it needs one that is dynamic to get the economy buzzing again.
The budget might be considered to be a bell weather guide as to the labour manifesto but we already have an idea about that from their slogan "A future fair for all".
Many folks understand that as being a new and better fun fair with all the latest rides. But lets face it any fair ground operator could run a better show than this lot.
I should know as I have met quite a few fair ground operator's in my time and I know what great people they are.
When Tony Blair was seeking election he gave undertakings that income tax would not increase but stealth taxes were introduced and have increased steadily.
GORDON BROWN PENSION STEALTH TAXES
One which was introduced by Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor was in respect of personal pensions and had the effect of taking some £350 billion from company and private pensions in the UK.
CORPORATION TAXES
The Conservative party have said that they would reduce the main rate of corporation tax which is paid by Limited company's from 28% to 25% and it would not surprise me if Mr Darling did this so as to spike their guns.
EVER INCREASING TAXES
Under Labour whilst income tax rates may not have been raised the percentage take in taxes has increased far in excess of wage increases and this is in real terms. I do not do my calculations the way that Gordon Brown did when he gave evidence to the Chilcot enquiry advising them untruthfully that funding to the Ministry of defence increased in real terms in every year when clearly this was not the case. He has written to them correcting the incorrect evidence that he gave.
How can he make such a stupid and silly mistake and it is really inexcusable as he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer for 11 years and Prime Minister for 2 years. You can draw your own conclusions but to me he is the captain of the Titanic and now he wants to direct the life boats. You will probaly find that his life boats are underfunded and do not have proper equipment.
WINDFALL
The current Chancellor has been given a little windfall in there has been some increase in tax receipts and unemployment claims have fallen slightly. How this small surplus may be allocated is a very good question. It has arisen simply that the actual borrowings of the government are slightly lower than the pessimistic estimates which were made at the depth of the recession. The current Prime Minister Gordon Brown would be quite keen on some goodies for the public particularly as there is an election looming very soon.
FUEL DUTY
One idea that would be very popular with all would be to defer the 3p rise per litre in fuel duty would be extremely popular as people are feeling the pinch. Also fuel duty increases tend to push up delivery costs so increasing the prices in the shops and stores.
WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS
Some extra funding for retired folks would be very popular and when Mr Brown was Chancellor he never turned down an opportunity to raise winter fuel payments which is very well received by older folks.
Discussions between the Chancellor and Gordon Brown have been very active in the last few days in that it has been reported that Mr Darling met with Mr Brown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to iron out some last minute details for the budget to be announced this Wednesday.
